DonationsPublishing and marketing books in Laos is an overwhelming task. Your financial support is highly welcome. In Laos, city people can afford books, but rural students can barely pay school fees. Lowering prices will make books more accessible to a wider population. Your donations will make book subsidies possible. In December 2008, I went to Xieng Khouang Province to see if subsidizing books would work. It proved highly successful and with the cooperation of several very proactive teachers and administrators, 1,000 copies sold in one week. There are plans to incorporate the books into the standard curriculum, but the price would need to be halved. There are many rural schools that operate on only a handful of books, so students owning their own copies would be a revolutionary step in the development of education in Laos. Donations can be made by credit card using the button on the left. Donations can also be made by sending checks through direct mail or by a direct bank deposit. For more information, please email Martin. You donations can also facilitate new books. Under development now is
a Lao sign language dictionary. At present, there is only one other book
of this kind and the need is urgent. Please go to the Lao
Sign Language Dictionary Project for more information.

The average classroom has anywhere from 30 to 50 students. Boys and girls are equally represented, but more support is needed for gender equality. |

Sibounheuang Middle School in Xieng Khoung Province has around 900 students.
Teachers have also asked for a new curriculum for the elementary school
level, an even larger population. There is much work to be done until
a book is on every desk. |
